AIGAS was pleased to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Industry Advisory Group for the AI Assurance Stakeholder Consortium, convened by techUK on 14 October 2026.
The Consortium, led by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and convened by the UK Government, represents an important step towards establishing a recognised and trusted AI assurance profession.
Its work will help develop the foundations for professional competencies, ethical standards and more consistent approaches to AI assurance across the UK.
Making AI assurance practical
At AIGAS, we believe effective AI governance must be accessible to organisations of all sizes, not just those with dedicated compliance teams or significant technical resources.
For accountancy practices in particular, AI adoption is moving quickly. Firms are introducing new tools, often without fully understanding how they are being used, what information they process or what governance arrangements are needed.
Our approach has always been that governance should enable the safe and confident adoption of AI, rather than create unnecessary barriers.
As the UK develops its approach to professional AI assurance, we believe the experiences of smaller professional-services organisations are an important part of that conversation.
Contributing an accountancy-sector perspective
Through our work developing the AIGAS Standard, AI Tool Register and governance certification pathway, we see first-hand the practical challenges organisations encounter when moving from good intentions to effective governance.
We welcome the opportunity to bring this sector-specific perspective to the wider industry discussion and to learn from the expertise of others working across the AI assurance ecosystem.
AI assurance must ultimately work in practice, not just on paper.
We look forward to supporting the continued development of a credible, proportionate and accessible approach to AI assurance in the UK.
